Tips for Staying Mentally and Physically Healthy as You Grow Your Business

Starting and growing your own business is an exciting journey, but let’s be honest—it can also feel overwhelming at times. Between handling clients, managing tasks, and keeping everything running smoothly, it’s easy to forget about you. And let me tell you, God doesn’t want you running on empty. He cares about your business, but He also cares about your mental and physical well-being.

As someone who’s walked this path, I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way!) just how important it is to take care of myself while building my business. So today, I want to share a few simple, practical tips that have helped me stay mentally and physically healthy.

1. Set Boundaries Early On

Girl, this one’s big! When you're starting out, it’s tempting to say "yes" to every client, every opportunity, and every task. But overcommitting is a fast track to burnout. Make it a priority to set healthy work boundaries from the start. This means:

  • Defining your work hours and sticking to them.

  • Learning to say "no" to projects that don’t align with your values or schedule.

  • Give yourself permission to unplug at the end of the day without guilt.

Remember, boundaries aren’t selfish—they’re necessary for your well-being.

2. Prioritize Your Quiet Time with God

No matter how busy life gets, your relationship with God should be at the center of everything. Taking even just 10-15 minutes a day to spend time in prayer, reading Scripture, or journaling can refresh your mind and spirit.

Running a business is a big responsibility, but God is right there beside you, ready to guide and strengthen you. Trust Him with your plans and take the time to reconnect with His peace, especially when things feel overwhelming.

3. Move Your Body Regularly

You don’t need to hit the gym for hours to stay healthy! Just a little movement each day can make a world of difference. Whether it’s going for a walk, stretching, or even dancing around your living room (yes, I’ve done that!), moving your body boosts your energy and helps clear your mind.

Find something you enjoy and stick with it. Even a quick 10-minute walk can reset your mood and help you stay focused for the rest of the day.

4. Schedule Breaks

You’re not a machine, and you weren’t designed to work non-stop. Take regular breaks throughout your workday to refresh your mind. Step away from your computer, grab a snack, or take a few minutes to breathe deeply.

One of my favorite ways to reset is to step outside for some fresh air. It’s amazing how a short break can give you a whole new perspective and energy to tackle the next task!

5. Connect with a Supportive Community

Running a business can sometimes feel isolating, but you don’t have to do it alone! Surround yourself with people who encourage and uplift you—whether it’s a group of fellow Christian businesswomen, a mentor, or even a prayer partner.

Having people in your corner who understand the highs and lows of entrepreneurship is invaluable. Share your wins, your struggles, and everything in between with a supportive community that’s rooting for your success.

6. Don’t Forget to Rest

This one might be the hardest for all the go-getters out there (trust me, I know!), but rest is essential. Just as God rested on the seventh day, we’re called to rest, too. Take time to recharge, whether it’s a day off, a mini-vacation, or simply giving yourself a few hours to relax without thinking about work.

Your business will be there when you return, and you’ll come back more focused and energized.

Your Health Matters, Too

Your mental and physical health are just as important as your business goals. By setting boundaries, staying connected to God, and caring for your body, you’ll not only build a thriving business but also live a balanced, joyful life.

Remember, sister, you can do this! And you don’t have to sacrifice your health along the way.

Here’s to building a business and a life you love!

Blessings,
